The Ministry of Tourism is developing a campaign that seeks to revive the tourism and economy in the Galapagos Islands. The strategy is called Vuelve a respirar (Breathe again) and seeks to capture the attention of both foreign and domestic travelers by offering a sustainable destination that is open, secure, and full of nature.

The campaign is the result of a collaboration between the public and private sectors. The available audiovisual material was used and internal resources were used for the construction of the products. Videos, graphics and other content in Spanish and English have been broadcast from Wednesday, June 9, 2021 through the promotional and institutional social networks of the Ministry of Tourism.

That state portfolio designated June as the month of reactivation in the Galapagos. Niels Olsen, Minister of Tourism, said that this campaign involves telling travelers that the operators of the archipelago are ready to receive them in a space where they can breathe calmly again.

“We remain optimistic that the reactivation is progressing; moreover, we do not take the steps to achieve it alone – we take these steps working shoulder to shoulder between public servants and private companies, partners whom I want to publicly thank for believing in the country and walking together toward a better future for Ecuador,” said the minister.

The Government also pointed out that a large part of the population of the island region has already been vaccinated against Covid-19 . According to the projections of the Ministry of Health, by mid-June the vaccination of 100% of the population over 18 years of age will have been completed.

The campaign was launched after the announcement made by the National Emergency Operations Committee on the approval of updates to the requirements to enter the Enchanted Islands. As of July 1, 2021, people who already completed the full Covid-19 vaccination scheme will be able to enter without having to present a negative PCR test.

The vaccination certificate must be valid at least 14 days before the flight. These same requirements apply to enter mainland Ecuador from March 22, 2021.

Those who have not received the vaccine must present, as a requirement for entering the Islands, the negative result of an RT-PCR with a maximum of 72 hours prior to the trip’s arrival.
